Everything piled on this day, Oct. 28th. Phill, as he is wont to do, worked as a doctor all day. We scheduled a public open house to have more people in this molasses slow real estate market see our house. Lastly, I had the next to last house corporation meeting early this evening. Because the lovely, wonderful, stupendous, has had so much positive influence on my daughters, T attends college now, I have no reliable baby sitter.
I asked my equally fabulous friend, TWA Pilot, to watch my children and dog for me. She agreed but told me that her church had the annual chili cook-off at the same time as my meeting. Of course, she could take them there. However, I knew I had to prepare Larien for what to expect.
Not worried about Inwe (she's attended a day or two of vacation Bible school with Cirdan and Findarato), I focused on explaining to Larien about saying grace before eating.
"You don't begin to eat until everyone says 'Amen'."
"What does 'Amen' mean?"
"I don't know, Larien. I never thought to ask. I always just said it when I was told to say it." I heard a humph from her direction. "Anyway, just wait until you hear the word amen."
"I will. I'll be good. I'll be quiet when they say the girl's name."
"Grace. It's called grace."
"Like the girl's name."
Later in the afternoon, I decided to quiz Larien. "What's the word you wait for before eating, Larien? Do you remember?"
"Awoman."
