I only have sleep for you

I experimented tonight.
The subjects: Finwe and T, babysitter extraoridnaire.

The hypothesis: Finwe will go to sleep for anyone now that he is weaned and sleeping on his own.

Methods: A dinner and movie were planned. T acquisitioned for childcare. Movie began at 7:05pm. Bedtime was between 7:30pm and 8pm. T was to follow the normal bedtime routine of playtime, bath, bottle, singing, rocking, and finally the crib. Mom had cell phone on vibrate in case of persistent crying episode.

Results: Despite a successful bath and bottle, Finwe would not settle for T at all. Crying, whimpering, and general fussiness were displayed for nearly an hour. T, much to her dismay, had to follow the protocol for persistent crying. She called Mom, who left the movie after just 40 mintues (those previews!). Finwe settled immediately once in Mom's arms. He is resting comfortably.

Conclusions: Despite being weaned and sleeping on his own in the crib, Finwe is not ready for alternate caregivers to execute the bedtime routine. The presence of Mom is required for an optimal bedtime. Mom will have to settle for dinner only while on evening dates with husband. Movies may only be in the afternoon, not near bedtime.

Both of your pictures today put a smile on my face. :) And movies...I miss going out to see movies. We used to be big movie people. Now it's just rentals for us.
