Swimming Levels

Last week Inwe and Larien finished another round of swimming lessons. Inwe has amazed me with her ability to grasp the physical concepts and put them into action. She can now do backstroke and freestyle for a good length of time. Today she jumped into the larger pool without her floating suit. This pool is 4 1/2 feet deep. She just took off swimming. She prefers a modified breaststroke (so do I for leisure swimming) and does quite a bit of swimming under the water. Her instructor thought she could go to level four. I think I'm going to let her.

Larien is still my fearless one in the water. However, I don't let her go in the water without the floating suit. She's not always under control enough to let her do that. Plus, like all younger siblings, she has to be right where Inwe is--in the deeper pool. At the end of the swim lesson last Thursday, Larien attempted to swim freestyle. She is too young to actually do it effectively, but she tried. The same instructor thought she could step up to level three, but I'm not going to follow that advice. I think some more time at level two would be good for her.
