Swimming For Real

I signed Inwe and Larien up for another round of swim lessons. I thought that they would be in different groups as they are at different levels, but I was wrong. I chose the inside lessons as both girls pay attention better, and, honestly, it's not always boiling hot in the morning here in Virginia so the girls have a hard time concentrating while they are shivering.

Inwe and Larien are in the same class with another little girl who is supposedly a level 2. Uh, no, she's not even close to Larien's level 2, but we can handle it. To the teacher's credit, he challenges Inwe every time. While Larien and Glynnis are doing streamline pushes off the wall, Inwe is doing freestyle. She can actually do it! Her right arm is more consistent than her left, but she can swim freestyle.

The other skill that Inwe has suddenly acquired is the backstroke. The teacher asked her to do it, demonstrated it for her, and off she went. She's awesome. Again, the left arm needs some work, but she can do it.

Larien, fearless as ever, tries everything and has figured out that she can touch the bottom and propel herself to the surface. She did this over and over for the teacher. What she won't do or can't do or doesn't trust herself to do is float on her back. She floats on her front, but won't do it on her back.

Returning to Inwe, she can also jump in, swim freestyle to the teacher, and then swim backstroke to the wall. I was so excited to watch her that I ended up sitting too close to the pool with Finwe, which resulted in me getting my pants completely wet. Thank goodness I brought my exercise clothes!
