Nursing Strike

Finwe is on a nursing strike. He voluntarily nursed at about 8:30am this morning and then refused any other nursing session. I tried at around 11 am to get him to sleep by allowing him to nurse. His response was to bite me, twice. After being told no the second time, he began crying and would not calm down. It took half an hour of swinging outside to get him to sleep. That nap only lasted 1 hour and was not enough for him.

At 1:30pm he displayed signs of wanting to nurse, so we tried again. All I got was more hysterical crying. The girls were napping, so I again turned to the swing, walking around, the stroller, and then the swing to get him to sleep. That took an hour. Most of that hour was spent listening to the poor boy cry. Sometime during that hour it occurred to me that he might be in pain. I gave him Tylenol. Perhaps it helped; I really don't know.

While he was napping, he roused a bit. He was awake enough to nurse, but not awake enough to protest. I was encouraged by this. That was at 3pm.

Bedtime was around 8pm, but he wouldn't nurse then either. Phill got him to sleep on the swing outside. I transferred him to the bed around 9pm. He nursed then as he was mildly awake. Phill said he saw him tugging on his ear suggesting a possible ear infection. We'll see if he wakes again tonight very fussy about the ear.

Ya know first R stopped nursing about this time for me...it was also after a biting incident....I screamed and I think I scared him, he nursed for about 2 more weeks and then he was done. During this time frame we were also on a trip to FL so that may have contributed. It was sad for me, such a loss! but after both sisters had a helluva time weaning, there was some positive to it, they ended up breastfeeding theirs till they were almost 3! Not that there is anything wrong w/that if that's what you want to do, I just didn't personally want to go that long and neither did they....so it was nice that first R decided on his own, but still painful for me, that closeness was gone....:-( These guys do grow up don't they? Hope Finwe feels better!
