Today I put my own prejudices aside. Yes, I pushed away the horrible, sexist thoughts I have had since I was 14 regarding cheerleaders so that my daughters could take a cheerleading class.
Originally, I had only enrolled Inwe in the 3-4 year old Kids Cheer class at our gym. (It so should be a country club light. There's just no golf course.) Then I saw that the teachers were two high school girls and with Inwe there were a total of three girls in the class. I asked one of the teachers if Larien could participate. The answer was yes. I paid the nominal fee and watched through the door.
In the beginning moments of the class the personalities of my daughters were very evident.
Larien: jumped right in yelling the words and hopping up and down.
Inwe: stood quietly for the first few minutes watching everything before deciding to join in.
The girls spent 45 mintues learning a cheer for the Dolphins (the gym has a swim team whose mascot is the Dolphins) with and with out pom-pons and learning how to do a forward roll. The three parents got to watch at the end while the girls did the cheer. I was impressed at how easily both girls picked up on the words and how well Inwe caught on to the choreography. Larien has pretty good rhythm and what she didn't know of the moves she made up in sheer enthusiasm and joy.

Daddy would be so proud and I am too. Now I just have to teach them GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOLES!
One thing at a time. There are three more classes.
Plus, that first football game of the season won't be easy for me to watch.
