You can't always get what you want

Tonight we were at a PetSmart near our house choosing some more plants for the aquarium. We also ended up getting more fish. Well, that should read "We also ended up getting one more species of fish, one ivory snail, and one small aquatic frog." (Phill gets a bit carried away, but Inwe now has her five species in the tank for each of her five years as was the original plan.)

Back to the real point of the story.
Brie, one of the cats available for adoption.
As Phill and the girls were deciding on fish types I was wheeling Finwe around the store so he could browse the aisles learning new words. This PetSmart has an adoption center for cats through the local SPCA. When Finwe spotted the cats his eyes widened. He pointed to the creatures sitting in the nice kitty domains as he repeatedly said, "Dis! Dis! Dis!" (I have to add the exclamation marks because he was very loud.)

"That's a cat. Those are cats," I informed him.

"At!"

"Yes, cat." I nodded.

"At!"

Each time I would attempt to leave the adoption center, Finwe protested with grunts.

Honestly, if my husband weren't wickedly allergic to cats, I'd have adopted one right then and there. Cats are so snuggly in a way that dogs just aren't. And, in case you are about to write in the comments that we could have an outside cat or Phill could go on medication or whatever, stop. There are many reasons:
  1. White Dragon would probably eat it.
  2. I like songbirds too much.
  3. There are already two outside cats behind our house who have done damage to the neighbor's dog (I'm talking expensive weekend visit to the emergency vet damage).
  4. Phill is wickedly allergic. None of those helpful pharmaceuticals help him in regards to cats.
So, Finwe learned a new word. That is good. Really, it was super exciting, because he doesn't like to perform. He won't say words on command like Inwe and Larien would. It was nice to hear some initiative in the language department from him. Now, I just have to find him a helmet to protect that brain.

The cat in the picture reminds me of Lucy and Tigger. What a good experience for Jack so see things and learn new words. Good for you.
