Nine Months of Age!

How did he get here so fast?

From the What to Expect the First Year book.

At the end of the ninth month you baby. . .

should be able to:
  • work to get an object out of reach--This is a way of saying can he crawl. Yes, oh yes he can crawl. Anytime, anyplace, anywhere.
  • look for dropped object--Yes, he definitely does this. He also drops objects from his high chair just to test gravity, because, you know, one day it might not work.
will probably be able to:
  • pull to standing position from sitting--Yes. He vexes Larien by most frequently choosing her chair. If he would just choose Inwe's chair she would be more than happy to play with him. Finwe and Inwe have a bond. Larien sees him only as competition and the boy who grabs her blanket.
  • get into a sitting position from stomach--Yes, even in the middle of the night when he accidentally ends up on his stomach. His solution is to sit up and whine for me.
  • object if you try to take a toy away--Yes.
  • stand holding on to someone or something--Yep. No problems here.
  • pick up tiny object with any part of thumb and finger--not that I test him on this, but he does find, say, a piece of lint or a speck of paper that just has to be found.
  • say mama or dada indiscriminately--He does! He really does. Sometimes he even gets it right!
  • play peekaboo--no
may possibly be able to:
  • play patty-cake or wave bye-bye--no
  • walk holding on to furniture--A little
  • understand word "no" (but not always obey it)--no
may even be able to:
  • play ball (roll it back to you)--no but never really tried it. According to Larien, Finwe shouldn't have a ball.Molly and Little Chief say that he throws it instead of rolling it. So, we have to say yes on this one.
  • drink from cup independently--no, but I'm working on it. It's the first step to weaning, which I hope to have done by 12 months.
  • pick up tiny object neatly with tips of thumb and forefinger--Yes
  • stand alone momentarily--If the planets are aligned correctly and if he can feel the chakra from the earth, he can.
  • stand alone well--no
  • say mama or dada discriminately--no
  • say one word other than mama or dada--no
  • respond to a one-step command with gestures--sort of, I can say come here, Finwe and he starts to crawl to me.

He played ball with Little chief, grandy and I. He did not roll it, he threw it. I am not sure if he was actually throwing it at us, but it definately had forward motion. :)
